My quest for perfect pearly whites

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Ok I'll admit it, I've been naughty this year :( on weekdays I'm inseparable from the Nespresso machine and my dark chocolate flavoured coffee capsules and on weekends you can catch me starting the day with a nice tall glass of Vietnamese iced coffee. I didn't think 2015 would be the year of caffeine but with a new product launch, international site launch and company re-branding on my shoulders, it's hard to survive without it.

Unfortunately for me, my new found love has come at the cost of my once pearly whites and I'm now on a mission to get back my great white bite and I thought it would only be fitting to share my journey.

So, I started off my quest with a few home remedies for teeth whitening including: using lemon and orange peels, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and even baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. All of which to no avail. I also felt a slight increase in teeth sensitivity so I figured that some of these methods might not be good for my enamel in the long term.

Which made me realise it was probably best to leave it to the experts! I did a lot of research online and found fantastic reviews and before and afters from successful teeth whitening patients that have been happy with the results from their in-chair treatment at Broadway Dental. Considering I'm turning a year older next week, I felt that clock ticking and decided it was time for a little confidence booster and booked myself in for my own teeth whitening experience.

I was quite surprised at how many questions were asked before I started my treatment (usually its me asking the questions!) Dr Fadi was my dentist and he was genuinely interested to know the exact result I was after and my current knowledge of the teeth whitening treatment and its pros and cons. He talked me through the different options that I had and what results I should expect as well as showed me examples of the brighter shades his previous patients have been able to achieve, if you would like to see them you can view his smile gallery here

After checking that I was comfortable with the process, I proceeded to relax in the chair for about 20-30mins as the whitening gel was applied to my teeth. I didn't feel any discomfort or pain during the waiting period, probably because I was feeling cosy in my chair while watching daytime TV as the time flew by. Before I knew it, my session was over and it was time for a rinse!

I couldn't believe how quick the process was and how white my teeth turned out! Dr Fadi and his team definitely underpromised and overdelivered and I couldn't be happier with my no longer coffee-stained white teeth.

Overall it was a positive, efficient, friendly and affordable experience for fantastic results and I can't wait to visit the team at Broadway Dental again.

Oversized flared sleeves... need I say more.

The Eternal Love Lace Playsuit by St Frock has definitely captured my heart. I'm in love with the sweet lacework, the fitted top and flared shorts and sleeves. It's perfectly shaped to give you the illusion of a smaller waist and strong shoulders. I could wear this alllll day ;)

Valentine's Day Wishlist

Since love is in the air and date nights are just around the corner, I thought it was only fitting to introduce you to my current lust list which includes delicate and understated jewellery pieces from Michael Hill's Infinitas collection.

The word 'infinitas' itself is the Latin word for 'boundlessness', although this can have many interpretations, 'infinitas' and the infinity symbol is conventionally associated with love and devotion and is used to signify eternity, empowerment and everlasting love.

The gorgeous mix of silver and rose gold accents from the Infinitas collection was what first caught my eye, you couldn't go past a store front without having to stop and take a glance. I love the clever placement of the infinity symbols within their understated designs, particularly with the Diamond Infinitas Cross Pendant and inside the intricacies of the cuff weavings.

Personally, I'm happy with any sort of gift, although it may not necessarily need to be jewellery, when it is, I do have a style preference and can be quite picky...so I thought about how difficult it must be for a guy to buy jewellery for his special lady and figured I would dedicate today's post to share some tricks that might give you extra guidance!

Tips for buying jewellery for your lady

For many guys, buying jewellery for a woman can be intimidating. Gifts like jewellery need to speak to a girl's personal tastes and be appropriate for the current stage you are in in your relationship. So if you're stammering down struggle street at the moment and you're thinking of getting her a necklace, ring, cuff or something similar, here are some tips to help you along:
  1. Do your research and take note: Look through her recent photos either on her Facebook or recent pictures on your phone and get familiar with the accessories she wears. If you do come across some pictures, things to take note of are: Whether or not she likes large statement pieces or subtle delicate pieces, whether she prefers gold, silver, rose gold or pearls, whether she prefers long earrings, short earrings or whether her ears are even pierced etc..
  2. Asking for advice: If you have you're not having any luck with point 1 but you do have access to your girlfriend's friend, sister or cousin's contact details handy, ask them for advice. Even if its via Facebook message, if they love her (and they approve of you ;) haha) then they will be more than willing to assist and give you some pointers.
  3. Reflect on the occasion and relationship: It's important to know whether or not you're at a point in your relationship where giving jewellery is appropriate. If its still early into the relationship and the occasion is Valentine's Day then its okay to buy jewellery that she could wear during her day-to-day, save that expensive sparkly number for your anniversary. If you've been together for a long time and its her birthday, its probably the right time to spoil her a little and I'm sure she won't mind that promise ring (or any of the items from the Michael Hill Infinitas collection!)
  4. Take her for a stroll: And if all else fails, take her for a stroll past a few jewellery stores and see if she stops to comment or look at something, as soon as it catches her eye, that's your excuse to enter the store and take a closer look yourself ;)
So there was my little chit chat for the day, I hope it helps some last minute shoppers and I'll hear from you post Valentine's Day, have a wonderful weekend full of love my loves!!

Today I'm a Two Timer

The only time I'm okay with orange tones in my hair is when I'm feeling comfortable in a boxy crop top and tall in a pencil front split skirt.

If you remember the label Dead Ivy from my previous blog posts, its one of the brands that I've quickly become obsessed with! If you're a close friend or colleague you've probably seen me in in the Dead Ivy Ever After Frock more times than you can count and that frock is a great example of one of the many reasons why Dead Ivy has quickly emerged as a favourite - their classic and flattering shapes and easy to wear monochrome.

I hope you've enjoyed this blog post, stay tuned for tomorrow's Valentine's Day wishlist!!

Runaway With Me

I can't believe just how quickly time has gone by. It seemed like yesterday 2015 was knocking on my door and Valentine's Day is now already a few days away. There's been a lot of hustle and bustle at work with a new product launch coming up amidst Valentine's Day preparations and the normal workload and I can't say it doesn't keep the day interesting, but I can say that I cherish my days off just a tad more.

Today's little throwback twin set is this Cartel Skirt and Cropped Top by Runaway The Label - great on its own for the days off and drape it with a blazer during your 9 to 5.

On a separate note, I often find it difficult to walk in midis, well at least gracefully anyway, due to my height (or lack thereof)... so I'm a huge fan of the mesh panelling at the bottom of the midi which gives you a bit of stretch in your stride.

Incyda

I remember when I first started blogging about fashion, one of my first posts was about a fringe vest I found in a thrift store that I was in love with. I loved the way it gave your body the illusion of length and the oriental touch it added to kimonos like these.

Now, if you're vertically challenged like myself and you want to add more 'length' to your body, a simple split maxi skirt will do the trick. Pair these with your fringe kimono and you've got yourself a match made in heaven - no heels needed ;)
